Hearing loss

In 1895, DD Palmer performed the very first chiropractic adjustment on Harvey Lillard, and Mr. Lillard regained his hearing after having been deaf for 17 years.  Dr. Palmer first thought that he had discovered the “cure” for deafness, and brought in many people to test this.  What he found, however, was that people were getting well from many different health challenges, so Dr. Palmer realized that there was something much bigger going on, and he established the profession of chiropractic as a way to correct nervous system interference (vertebral subluxation) so that all people can function at a higher level.

Unfortunately, many people have criticized this founding event of chiropractic.  They laughed and said that hearing is controlled by cranial nerves, which they (mistakenly) think have noting to do with the spinal nerves.  So, obviously, chiropractors are charlatans!  Well, here’s a study that was just published in China, looking at the use of chiropractic care in the management of people with sudden hearing loss.  The paper itself is in Chinese, but a summary can be found on PubMed.gov, from the US National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health.   And the conclusion?  “Compared with routine method for cervicogenic sudden hearing loss, additional chiropractic can improve hearing and relieve neck pain effectively.”
